Modern Saudi Army

Page history last edited by Dan Fraser 15 years, 8 months ago

Saudi Arabia

This nation has two armed forces, the National Armed Forces and the Saudi National Guard.  The Army is a poor cousin next to the National Guard.  The army is controlled by the government and the National Guard by the emirs and princes. The National Guard receives huge sums of private money to buy the best equipment while the army is constrained by the national budget.  Saudi army uses both French and American equipment but never the two in the same brigade.  The Saudi National Guard uses all wheeled equipment that is not in regular use by other countries.  The National Guard is officered by the princes and is tribal based.  The Saudi Army is officered by the middle class and is urban (non-tribal) based with a large number of non-Saudi Muslims in its enlisted ranks (Bengali and Pakistani feature).
